Biofuels

Southwest Indiana is rapidly becoming a hotbed for the production of ethanol and biofuels.

With an emerging cluster of companies that includes Cargill, CGB, and Abengoa, the Region is developing a cohesive network of firms engaged in the production and transportation of these renewable fuels. These firms have discovered Southwest Indiana’s many advantages: high availability of grain and oilseed feedstocks used in production, barge transportation access via the Ohio River, and supportive community colleges willing to create new curriculum to train biofuels workers.

The start of production at two new facilities – Abengoa and Southern Indiana Biofuels – in 2009 signals the continued ascendance of Southwest Indiana as a top operating environment for the biofuels industry.
